Alexander James Napier was the son of a Scotsman who landed in Hawaii in 1912 with a shipment of cattle from Missouri. Alex was born on Maui but was raised on Parker Ranch on the Big Island until the family moved to Honolulu. He worked at the Hind Clark Dairy at age 13, then for Dairymen’s. Then in 1951 he went to work for Kahua Ranch in Kohala where he stayed for 30 years. Alex was active as an officer or director of the Hawaii Cattlemen’s Council, the American National Cattlemen’s Association and numerous other associations. He also served on the land use commission and was politically active to better the ranching and livestock industry in Hawaii. Alexander’s son Bobby, has followed in his footsteps as a 3rd generation paniolo, and is the President of the O`ahu Cattlemen’s Association.
