Eddie Sr. was born at Waimea, Kauai, and was a paniolo for Makaweli Ranch for 53 years until he died in 1984. At the age of 12 he started work for the Robinson family and became legendary for his ability to find trails when hunting game in the mountains and valleys of Koke`e and Waimea Canyon, or for leading the rain gauge party up through the mists of Mt. Waialeale. He was also a rodeo cowboy, winning many awards and trophies. His great grandchildren are now following in his footsteps.
